Table Game Terms You Should Know
Understanding the language of the table makes the experience more enjoyable and helps you make smarter bets.
Punto Banco — The standard version of Baccarat played at spingo, where the casino banks both hands. Players bet on outcome only — no strategy decisions required during play.
Natural — In Baccarat and Blackjack, a "natural" is the best two-card starting total. In Baccarat that is 8 or 9; in Blackjack it is an Ace plus a 10-value card (Blackjack).
Banker Bet Commission — A 5% commission is typically charged on winning Banker bets in Baccarat. This is standard industry practice and is why the Banker bet still holds a slight edge despite the commission.
Shoe — The dealing device used in Baccarat and Blackjack containing multiple decks (usually 6 or 8). Cards are dealt from the shoe throughout a session.
Bust — In Blackjack, when your hand total exceeds 21. A bust is an automatic loss, regardless of what the dealer holds.
Double Down — A Blackjack option allowing you to double your original bet in exchange for receiving exactly one additional card. Most effective when the dealer shows a weak upcard (2–6).
Inside Bet (Roulette) — Bets placed on specific numbers or small groups of numbers on the roulette layout. Higher payout ratios but lower hit frequency compared to outside bets.
Outside Bet (Roulette) — Bets on broader categories: Red/Black, Odd/Even, 1–18/19–36. Lower payouts but much higher win frequency — suitable for longer sessions.
Tie Bet (Baccarat) — A side bet that Banker and Player will finish with identical totals. Pays 8:1 but carries a high house edge of around 14.4% — generally not recommended for regular wagering.
